The Sukhoi SU-35 made a stunning performance at the Paris Air Show 2013. There were a few maneuvers I have never seen before and sometimes this skilled pilot made it very difficult for me to follow the plane. Usually I am only filming civilian planes but the performance of this SU-35 was so impressive so that I had to upload the footage. The Sukhoi Su-35 (Russian: Сухой Су-35; NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) is the designation for two improved derivatives of the Su-27 air-defence fighter. They are single-seat, twin-engine, supermaneuverable aircraft, designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and built by the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant. The first variant was designed by the Soviet Union during the 1980s as an improvement on the Su-27 and was known as the Su-27M. This derivative incorporated canards and a multi-function radar that transformed the aircraft into a multi-role aircraft, which was structurally reinforced to cope with its greater weight. The first prototype made its maiden flight in June 1988. As the aircraft was not mass-produced due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Sukhoi re-designated the aircraft as Su-35 to attract export orders. The fourteen aircraft produced were used for tests and demonstrations; one example had thrust-vectoring engines and the resultant Su-37 was used as a technology demonstrator. A sole Su-35UB two-seat trainer was also built in the late 1990s that resembled the Su-30MK family. In 2003, Sukhoi embarked on a second modernization of the Su-27 to serve as an interim aircraft awaiting the development of the Sukhoi PAK FA (Su-57) program. Also known as Su-35, this version has a redesigned cockpit and weapons-control system compared to the Su-27M and features thrust-vectoring engines in place of the canards. The type made its first flight in February 2008; although the aircraft was designed for export, the Russian Air Force in 2009 became the launch customer of the aircraft, with the production version called Su-35S. China's People's Liberation Army Air Force and the Indonesian Air Force have also ordered the aircraft.

In today’s session, we are going to discuss about the superiority of Su-35 and why it has been deemed as a dangerous combat aircraft in the global arena. Su-35 is a supermaneuverable twin-engine single-seat aircraft created by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and manufactured by the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant. In the 1980s, the aircraft industry of the Soviet Union decided to upgrade the Su-27 with enhanced avionics, engines, and aerodynamic equipment. The newly designed fighter jet would then be dubbed as the “Su-27M”, though the project faced temporary halt as a result of financial impediment in the aftermath of Soviet dissolution and completely terminated in 1995, leaving only three serial models produced. NATO Fighter Jets Scramble to Intercept 3 Russian Su-35 in the Baltic Sea The Nato Air Force has intercepted two Russian fighter jets and a spy plane flying near NATO airspace over the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. Eurofighter Typhoon, f/a-18 fighter jets from IX(B) Squadron RAF and German Air Force 71st 'Richtofen' Wing were scrambled to intercept and visually identify several unidentified aircraft flying near NATO airspace. One of those aircraft was a Russian Air Force IL-20 Coot-A intelligence aircraft that flew from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad, an enclave bordering Poland that was escorted by Russian SU-35 fighter jets. The intercept this time was by the British and German Air Forces operating Eurofighter Typhoon and f/a-18 fighter jets from Amari Air Base in the Baltic country of Estonia as a joint force. The stunt comes just days after leaked documents showed that Russian fighter jets attempted to fire missiles at British manned planes over the Black Sea last month. Video is for illustration only.

Su-35 is designed to gain air superiority through manned and unmanned aircraft destroying by guided missiles in medium and long range engagements and dogfights; to destroy ground and surface targets by all type of weapon, as well as destroy the enemy ground infra-structure facilities located very far from the base airfields heavily protected by the active AAD system. Su-35 is a profound modernized variant of the Su-27 fighter aimed to enhance the aircraft combat efficiency when attack aerial, ground and sea targets. The Su-35 design incorporated the best engineering solutions worked through on the Su-27/Su-30 family fighters. The aircraft maintenance and support system meets the world’s standards requirements. New engines with all-aspect TVC nozzle and thrust of 14,500 kg are installed on the air-craft. The inner fuel capacity is increased and the aircraft can carry two external fuel tanks with 2,000 liters capacity. The aircraft is equipped with the new Integrated digital aircraft control system (ICS) carried out the functions of Fly-by-wire and Automatic Flight Control systems, Signal limiting system and Air Data System, and Landing Gear Wheel Braking Control System. Instead, the Su-35S is equipped with the Irbis-E PESA radar, which is a further development of the N011M radar and forms the core of the Su-35's weapons control system. It can detect an airborne target up to 400 km away and can track thirty airborne targets and engage eight of them simultaneously. In addition, the multifunctional radar is capable of providing high-resolution images of targets using synthetic aperture, or so-called SAR mode. However, several experts question the capability of the Irbis-E radar.
