Most “Humane” method to control slugs and snails in garden. It’s 100% working and a simple easy diy electric repeller for slugs and snails. We will setup this best 100% working method to repel slugs and snails in your garden and most importantly it’s 100% Humane method because you are not killing these creatures. Let’s build this inexpensive DIY slugs and snail fence and see what happens when they try to cross this barrier. Slugs and snails are actually cute looking creatures, but they eat away a lot of your garden, leaving only plant or leaf skeletons. They are active during the night and really difficult to get rid-off. In our previous episodes, we discussed so many natural methods to control slugs and snails like using a Beer Trap, Food grade Diatomaceous earth boundaries, sprinkling Epsom salt, encouraging natural predators like birds, frogs, toads, chicken and stuff like that. But none of these are 100% effective and in fact some of these are difficult to implement. In this episode, we will discuss on the barrier or the fence method using copper wire or copper tape and show you the 100% effective electric fence method. Some of you might be worried hearing the word “Electric”! Do not worry, its 100% safe for humans and pets because we are using just a 9V DC battery which does not cause any electric shock and, it is infact quite inexpensive, permanent and 100% working method. Inexpensive! Yes indeed, because the battery will not be consumed unless the slugs and snails complete the circuit by trying to cross this barrier. Many companies sell some slugs and snail copper tapes and claim they repel these creatures. No doubt copper is a repellent for slugs and snails, but there has to be a good concentration of copper in the tapes and also the tape has to be more than 2 inches wide to create the copper repelling effect on the snails. Now Lets quickly build this DIY slugs and Snail electric fence in three simple steps: List of Few basic Things You need: a. 9V Battery with its connecting wires. You can also try using a 3 volt battery for smaller pots. But the best effect is seen with a 9V battery. b. Bare or non-insulated copper wire or any bare metallic wire, preferably a galvanized wire because its resists corrosion. You can also strip some copper wires from old electric wires if you have some. c. A small plastic container as a battery holder. You can even use a small glass bottle to build a water proof housing for the battery. d. Optionally you may need a soldering gun, glue gun, wire cutters, staplers particularly if you are installing on wooden containers or raised beds, then you may also need some insulation tape and other stuff as required. While dipping plants in salt water or a bleach solution may be more effective for ridding aquarium plants of snail eggs, using alum is much safer for the plants themselves. A cute Grand Globe Snail was trying to climb over a stick on a trail we were hiking this summer. It made it over the stick so I couldn't help but feel victory for the little snail. Grand Globe Snail (Mesodon normalis) Its shell is thin, though not as thin as that of M. andrewsae. The reflected lip is broad and flat, and the shell is often yellow-ish on the back side of the lip. A single wide, bump-like tooth can frequently be found on the columellar margin of the aperture. Usually the animal is dark in color, but in some cases are light in color. Mesodon normalis is typically found on soils that are not rich. It lives in ravines and on mountainsides, and can be found at altitudes of up to 5,000’ (Hubricht 1985). In this episode Hillstream aquarium has been infested by pest snails and I added five Amano shrimps to battle the green algae and eat decaying plant matter. By looking closely at the pest snails it seems that these two snails are bladder snails. I had experience with bladder snails in the past. Once they start breeding they can get out of control. Most important is not to overfeed aquarium and keep aquarium clear of algae. This way they have limited food source and they can't reproduce in great numbers. The only way they could get in is with the plants on Day 1. All of the plants were "pest free" and sealed. All but few Vallisneria which were delivered to me wrapped in wet newspaper from a different shop. That should have been a sign that these plants were from another aquarium. I will take as long as I need to get this done. Cloudy water in new Hillstream Aquarium (River Aquarium) was removed by adding filter floss to the filter baskets. Two Nerite snails were added and their main role will be to eat dead plant matter, produce ammonia and feed the "filter start" bacteria I added on the day aquarium was created. Other than that I added acrylic lid on the aquarium to stop evaporation and to prevent organism from escaping aquarium. The lid is barely visible. Skimmer was added to clear the oily film that started to create in the left corner of aquarium. Assassin Snails are not interested in eating plants at all, so there is no risk the plants will get devoured. And pest snails may enter a tank by hitching a ride on aquarium plants, so Assassin Snails may really help keep their population in check. One of the good things is that Assassin Snail care is no too difficult. Its not as easy as caring for some other types of snails, but as long as water conditions are right, and food is plentiful, Assassin Snail care does not take much effort. Ramshorn snails seem to either be getting bad press for how quickly they breed, or being completely ignored despite the fact they are a feature of so many people's tanks. This little video is about Ramshorns and how I look after my colony. My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) ) Lights Nicrew Classic LED - 🤍 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green. Nicrew SKY - 🤍 - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming. Filters Pat Mini - 🤍 - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike. ASAP - 🤍 - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently. Air Pump AP-3 Kit : 🤍 - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me. Tanks Scaper 45 - 🤍 - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike. My filming stuff Camera - Cannon 200D - 🤍 - nice camera, easy to use. BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - 🤍 - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators. Lil' tripod - 🤍 - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.
