Ramana Maharshi ( 1879 -1950) was an Indian sage and jivanmukta (liberated being). He was born Venkataraman Iyer, but is mostly known by the name Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. He was born in Tiruchuli, Tamil Nadu, India. In 1895, an attraction to the sacred hill Arunachala and the 63 Nayanmars was aroused in him and in 1896, at the age of 16, he had a "death-experience" where he became aware of a "current" or "force" which he recognized as his true "I" or "Self". Ramana Maharshi (30 dicembre 1879 – 14 aprile 1950) è stato un mistico indiano, ed un maestro dell'Advaita Vedānta del XX secolo. È uno dei saggi più celebrati in India. Bhagavan Sri Râmana Mahârshi (1879 - 1950), foi um mestre de Advaita Vedanta e famoso santo do sul da Índia, considerado um dos maiores sábios de todos os tempos. A essência de seus ensinamentos é o “Atma Vichara”, “Self-enquiry” (auto-inquirição ou auto-investigação). Seu objetivo é eliminar as falsas ideias sobre o Eu e o ego, o levando à realização não-dual da Realidade. Atma-Vichara não deve ser considerada uma prática de meditação que ocorre em certas horas e em certas posições; mas que deve continuar durante as horas de vigília, independentemente do que se esteja fazendo. Sri Ramana Maharshi não via conflito entre o trabalho e a auto-investigação e afirmava que com um pouco de prática isso poderia ser feito em quaisquer circunstâncias.
