How to Import MKV Files in Adobe Premiere Pro MKV files (or Matroska Video files) are a multimedia container format file that first came into use in 2002. Multimedia container formats incorporate multiple file formats into a single file – these could be MP3 or WAV audio files and H.264 or WMV video files. They are not an industry standard file type and as such some media players and video editors do not support them – Adobe’s Premiere Pro CC is one of these programs. Fortunately there is a workaround for Premiere Pro users trying to edit MKV files: all you have to do is convert your MKV files into a format which is supported by Premiere Pro. This can be easily done using an MKV converter which, as the name suggests, converts MKV files into different formats. Want lossless conversion?....Please Read this video Description completely. _ In this video, i am showing how to import MKV files in Adobe Premier Pro by first converting the .mkv file to .mp4 using VLC Media Player. Why i am using VLC media player is because it's easier and lot of people have VLC media player installed in their machines. VLC Media Player::::::::::: 🤍 For your information, This is not the right method to import MKV media files to Adobe Premier Pro. It's a bit complex process using tools like mkvextract, mkvtoolnix, etc which i have detailed below. This video shows an easy way around the normal procedure. MKV and MP4 are what's known as "container formats" - think of them like a box, that can store various video and audio "streams" or tracks. The problem is, MKV can store more formats of video and audio tracks than MP4 can - and this is where you can run into problems with the above method. What I am describing here, is a technique called "reboxing" - essentially taking the audio and video tracks, and reboxing them into an MP4 container. This is a very quick and easy technique - provided that the audio and video tracks are in a format that the MP4 container supports. If they're not, merely reboxing the tracks can result in some combination of no video (more likely) or no audio (less likely). In your case, having audio and no video means that the format of the video track isn't supported my the MP4 container. To fix this, you need to uncheck that "Keep original video track" box, and choose a format that MP4 supports. The test video i have used is an short episode from the anime ANGEL BEATS!. I used that video because it has very small size, thus making .mp4 conversion/encoding much faster. PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS NO AUDIO WITH OUTPUT VIDEO? (may not work 100%) : If your output file has no audio but only video, try this method first. On the 'convert' window, the default 'profile' is 'Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4)'. Click on it to view the list of presets. In the list, scroll down and choose 'Audio - MP3' or similar. Proceed with the normal steps as shown in video. The output file you get will be the audio file of the source video. If you still didn't get the audio, you should try the second method i mentioned below Now you got a video only file and an audio only file Import both in Adobe Premier Pro and match the media to perfection. SECOND METHOD (Works 100%) : Since many have problems with using this VLC conversion, follow the real method:::: This solves issue with multiple audio tracks and no audio / no video output files. This method also gives 100% lossless files. MKV is a container. You will need to follow the usual method of extracting individual media files from it. You will have to use mkvxtract, a tool within mkvtoolnix for this purpose. It's a bit complex for starters. i will break it down. There are other videos explaining the same. Check them out if you are not clear. 1. Download suitable version (latest of course) of Mkvtoolnix from here.. 🤍 2. Install it 3. Go to root folder : C:\Program Files\MKVToolNix - (default) 4. Launch "gMKVExtractGUI.exe" 5. Input the directory of source MKV file. All the media (videos, audios, subtitles, fonts) in that MKV container will be shown in the white area with check box on left hand side of each media. 6. Check the media tracks you want to export (Video track, audio track, second or more audio track depending on your source, subtitle files (.ass), fonts, etc as per your needs) 7. Specify an output directory of your choice to keep the extracted files. 8. Click "Extract" button Now you have obtained the video, audio, second audio ,etc out of MKV container. Import it in Adobe Premier Pro and do your thing.. The extracted video is lossless. The method using VLC is lossy but way easier. ;) If you still can't import the video track, then change it's extension from .h264 to .264 OR render it again using another software. (use your brains and figure out what file type you are converting from and to) _
