Ross Mahon channel - 🤍 Black Mesa is a first-person shooter video game, developed and published by Crowbar Collective. It is a third-party remake of Half-Life (1998) in the Source game engine. Originally published as a free mod in September 2012, the game was given approval by Valve (the developers of Half-Life) for a commercial release. The commercial version was first published as an early access title in May 2015 and had its full release in March 2020 for Microsoft Windows and Linux. Black Mesa was developed in response to Half-Life: Source (2005), Valve's port of Half-Life to the Source engine, which lacked new features or improvements. The project was formed by the merging of two separate teams that wanted to improve on the Source remake, eventually becoming Crowbar Collective. While they had originally targeted a release by 2009, the team realized they had rushed to this point, and reevaluated their efforts to improve the quality of the remake. Since then, attention to details, adapting the game to an improved version of the Source engine, and completely reworking the oft-derided final chapters of Half-Life known as Xen had lengthened the development efforts into the remake. Due to its long development time, the modification became notable for its delays on the status of its completion. Among major changes in the remake include a reskinned collection of textures, models, and NPCs; a longer runtime; improved level and puzzle design along with challenging enemy artificial intelligence, and additional dialogue and story elements. Black Mesa received positive reviews upon its initial release and was lauded as the game was updated and improved. It's a simple thing, but it's not often that you see that level of fine detail in a VR game. Usually, virtual hands are either low-detail ghostly apparitions or gloved. This grit also tells us something about this character, a scrappy survivor raised in the aftermath of the Seven-Hour War in which the alien Combine conquered Earth, and it quickly establishes that she isn't as buttoned-down as that MIT-educated nerd Dr. Gordon Freeman. Some people said I needed to do more clickbait stuff. Others said I have big Hbomb energy. I combined them together, and created: plagarism* Others say the intro is still going. They were right then, and they're right now. This was fun to make. I can see why people do it. Please never ask me to make clickbait again. It makes me feel dirty. I was too far into the "joke" around doing a clickbaity title and ripping off hbomb that by the time I realised it was a mistake it was too late, and the infinitely better titles suggested by my Patreons couldn't be used because half the video wouldn't make sense. The joke has only become more of a mistake as time marched forwards Also there's a lot of audio and footage chopping, which frustrates me. The HD file of this is 20GB. The UHD file was 80GB. Davinci Resolve was having NONE of it, and then the credits were screwy so I had to delete the old video. But despite it being unlisted and not sharing a link, 6 of yous saw it before I took it down to upload a corrected version! What's going on there, YouTube?! Black Mesa is truly the best way to experience Half-Life in this day and age. I'd probably argue that it's the best way to experience the classic tale, period. But no matter which side you fall on - whether it's wanting to relive the origin of the Freeman or simply playing a compelling first-person shooter narrative – Black Mesa is a triumph in almost every single way. Half-Life was incredibly popular in 1998 (and still is I'd say). But you should also try out Black Mesa, as it's just as good, if not better than the original. They really did a lot with this game, and it shows, considering it's been in development for more than 10 years. If you enjoyed the original Half-Life, I really recommend you try out Black Mesa. It can be summed up as: Half Life if it was made in the modern age. Black Mesa has massive changes to the original, and whether you like them or not is up to you. There are so many changes.
