In this video I put side by side the Sony FX30 and the BMPCC6K. This is NOT a scientific test, but I was able to keep the exact same settings on both cameras, so I think it's a pretty fair comparison. For grading I used the BUTTERY Natural Rec709 LUT and some basic adjustments (WB and ISO are always a bit different from one camera to another). Keep in mind that Youtube compression plays a big role here. I will upload another video with my comments shot by shot and I will make the master file available for download in the next weeks. In this video I bring you behind the scenes of a one day shoot for Zonin1821. I talk a lot about one man band shoots and here is very good example of what you can achieve with only your camera (no auto-focus or IBIS) and a good lens. In this case I had to film three different videos in one day for an in-store campaign for the US market. Time and resources were limited, but I was able to make it work. Took my BMPCC6K and Leica R 28mm to Andalusia for a week long roadtrip. I decided to avoid music and to use sound effects (some are done in post and some are from the camera mic) because I think the video looks more real and it gives you the impression to be there with me. Is the BMPCC 4K a better camera than the BMPCC 6K PRO? BMPCC 4K: 🤍 BMPCC 6K Pro: 🤍 No....and yes. In some areas the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K actually has the advantage over the 6K Pro. I still feel like there is a place for the BMPCC6K, and BMPCC6K Pro cameras for those who are looking for a more 'cinema' centric camera, but after trying out the BMPCC6K Pro and comparing it to my Lumix S5 (of which can now also shoot BMRAW), I've kinda come to the conclusion that there's more downsides than upsides to the Black Magic offering. The BMPCC6K Pro has some awesome features of course, like internal ND's, extended I.O compared to the Lumix S5 and a generally more refined interface for video shooters, but the size, ergonomics and sheer goofiness of this camera makes it really hard for me to see myself using it as an asset for my business. The Lumix S5, just like the other Full Frame Panasonic bodies can now output BMRAW via HDMI, so if you were looking to use that BMRAW codec then both cameras will serve you just fine. The plus side to the S5 however is the bigger sensor and the more 'user friendly' ergonomics and build quality. You can easily rig up the Panasonic S5 with monitors, cages and put it on pretty much any gimbal with ease, but you can't do that with the BMPCC6K/6K Pro without some tinkering and mcGuivering. If you're unsure about what your next video camera should be, then this video should help you quite a lot, but if you already know that the BMPCC6K Pro has features that you would die without then your mind is already made up, so this video is more so for those who have been on the fence. The L-Mount system generally is becoming more and more diverse in terms of its lens offerings and price point, but of course, the EF mount is still one of the most universal and cheapest mount options out there. For a while now, I’ve been trying to find the balance between travelling as light as possible and maximising production quality. Often those two things seem to be at odds. Minimalism without compromise is the goal. There are also huge advantages to being nimble when you’re doing a lot of “run and gun” shooting with documentary filmmaking. That’s what made me so excited about the release of the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro! This is by no means a full review (which will come) but I had a gap to test it out while in Namibia recently and I’m really impressed with the results so far. Over the course of this year, I’ll be making it my main camera for broadcast and promo content alike and putting it through the paces. I already edit off of DaVinci Resolve so the workflow with the BRAW codec will be pretty seamless (luckily my little MacBook Pro is keeping up so far 😝). Who wants to see a full review?
