C Band Satellite LNB Review A review and overview of the LNB I use on my C-band satellite dishes. It's known as a 'single cable solution', or one-cable solution (OCS) LNB. Its has a low-band and high-band local oscillating (LO) frequency range of 5150-5750 MHz. This is the mixing frequency the LNB uses to downconvert high frequency satellite signals from space to a frequency more suitable for travel through coaxial cable to your receiver. All that is required is a single connection to the coaxial cable from your receiver, and the voltage from your free satellite receiver will power it and allow it to function. It is also modestly priced as well (I got mine on eBay). I have used 2 of these for over a year on my C band dishes, with excellent results. C-Band Satellite LNB with 5G Filter A show-and-tell overview of the Titanium LNB I bought for use on my C-band satellite dishes. It features a dual output, as well as a 5G bandpass filter to eliminate interference from 5G cellular phone signals. The LNB has an updated reception frequency of 3800-4200 MHz, to reflect the newly reallocated C-Band frequency spectrum. It has a Local Oscillating (LO) frequency range of 5150 MHz. The idea is to separate the polarizations and guide them to their own wave guides. This cuts down on cross polarization interference and generally you get a cleaner signal. The single orthomode feed is used by TV or radio stations that need just a single polarization. In this case, they will get the maximum S/N ratio because there is only one microwave polarization bouncing around inside the feed. 🤍 I also we look at a prime focus Ku feed horn. This is the correct feed horn needed to illuminate a prime focus dish, as opposed to an offset dish. Many hobbyists complain that they can't get good ku results with a c/ku combo feed. This is because that feed is not designed to efficiently illuminate a prime focus dish. Also, some people use offset feeds on their big prime focus dishes, but again, the illumination pattern will be wrong because of the f/d mismatch and they will get poor results. The correct ku feed horn to use is the one I sent you. It is matched for f/d = 0.4 It has several layers of scalars the create a broad illumination pattern and utilize the entire surface of the prime focus reflector. This is the key to getting excellent ku signal reception. You just have to make sure you get the feed positioned at the phase center of the reflector. Only way to do this is by hand. It will be very near the focal point, but you will have to experiment. Unfortunately, these feeds are designed for 3 strut antennas, whereas your mesh dish has 4 struts. You may have to improvise to get it attached. You could try attaching it to a c band scalar ring with 3 screws. The Happy Satellite Nerd Episode 103 Get the best of both worlds on one dish with a C band and KU band LNBF Free to Air television. Unable to find this model of C/KU lnb but you can get them from Tek2000 🤍 You should have the following parts in addition to the main body of the BSC621-2 C/Ku LNBF. 1. The Scalar Ring, used to mount the BSC621-2 to your dish. You will notice it has holes that allow you to use 4 support arms or 3 support arms depending on your dish. There is a package of bolts that mount the dish arms to the scalar ring. It includes the bolt that mounts the BSC621-2 to the scalar ring. 2. The di-electric plate is used for circular signals. It converts your linear polarity to circular. 3. The Coax Jumper is used to connect the Ku part of the BSC621-2 to the switching device located on the side of the BSC621-2. This diagram shows how to connect the Ku and C-band so it can be delivered down one coax. Looking at the diagram, you will see the Ku connection is at the end of the BSC621-2. Using the Coax Jumper, connect it to the port marked “LNB” on the side of the BSC621-2. Connect the coax that delivers signal to your receiver to the remaining port, marked “RCV”. The band switching is accomplished by DiSEqC control sent from your receiver. Setting your receiver DiSEqC to #1 or A will give you C-band, and setting your receiver DiSEqC to #2 or B will give you Ku-band.Properly installing the LNBF on your dish is critical. After attaching the scalar ring to your support arms, you should confirm that it is pointing to the center of your dish. One way to do this is to measure from the edge of your dish to the edge of the scalar ring in several places around your dish. These measurements should be the same. If not, your feed is not pointing to the center of your dish and will not perform as intended. After finding a signal, turn the LNBF to find the best polarity performance. Do this on both polarities. Carefully move the LNBF toward the dish and away from the dish to find the best operating distance. After finding the best possible performance tighten the set screw to hold the LNBF in place. The BSC621-2 has the ability to receive circular polarized signals. Remove the end cap from the LNBF. Insert the di-electric plate in the throat guides. Replace the end cap.
