Books Ignite 15th November 2022 Hello World, here on the Books Ignite Show we had with us 🤍dkjonah and she shared that one book she wanted everyone to know about. D.K is a multipotentialite; she is passionate about multiple areas of life and has involved herself in many areas of life. She is a self trained brand strategist and a productivity coach who helps people stay accountable to their goals to ensure that they are on track. She trains social media managers and runs The Elite Social Manager; a school for social media managers to learn how to get better at what they do. D.K Jonah is passionate about productivity. She is an author too. D.K is an avid reader who believes she doesn’t know life without books. She has always been a person who is drawn to books. She believes books are the most efficient way to learn about the world and perspective of others. D.K Jonah says books are one of the ways to train yourself and learn on your own terms. She sees books as an opportunity to leverage on self development. She affirms that books are also a great way to relax and a good way to change your vocabulary. “Reading books also helps an individual to learn and grow. The only way you grow is if you are open to unlearning” D.K Jonah re-echoes. Having grown in the hands of parents who are readers, she learnt how to read books by observing her parents. Growing up, she had more books than shoes. DK Jonah also emphasized that everyone has a creative side, believe in yourself, look within yourself for your creative sides and embrace it. Dorothy is a grief support counsellor, a life-recovery coach, an emotional intelligence and anger management specialist. Being the daughter of an English teacher, Dorothy started reading quite early. Infact one could say, she grew up in a pool of books. She picked an interest in books early. For Dorothy, reading was travelling. Dorothy De’ame Hirse is a lawyer, however, life happenings created a transition in her life and she found herself exploring the path of her current career. Curious about the book that changed are life? Okay here you have it - the book that changed Dorothy’s life was Deadly Emotions by Don Colbert. It has helped her guide people; thereby making them conscious of things they were not aware of. One thing that hit the “wow” button for Dorothy in her book was the title. It fanned the flame of curiosity for her. Another thing that stood out for her in the book was when she learnt that the emotions humans feel can manifest physically. The book also aided her in her career as a grief counselor and an emotional intelligence specialist. Being raised by a dad who reads a lot did not spur Praise to become a reader, since, he didn’t like the books he was being exposed to, he only got interested in his academic books. However, after he came in contact with the books given to him by his friends ; you might want to watch the show to know the title of these two books, but the book caught his interest and made him read more him. Through the help of his mentor, with time he became a bookworm. Being someone who had sealed a decision that there will never be a time in his life where the clothes in his wardrobe will be more than the books in his library; picking out that one book that changed his life was quite a difficult task. However, the one book he will love everyone to read is captured in this episode. Even though it was a book written many years ago, it has been a help to many people who came to him desiring a change of their lives. The book is a very radical book. It’s been over 18years since he first read that book. One of the punch lines Praise Fowowe quoted from the book was “If you want to solve poverty problem , don’t join anybody to discuss poverty. Don’t attend meetings where they discuss about helping the poor”. The book made him become very radical. The book can make its reader begin to take decisions that promotes his wellness without emotions, attachments or sentiments to people you love. The book caused Praise to move away from some associations, it forced him to cease from listening to some people. According to him it made his life become very narrow. One critical impact the book that changed Praise's life had on him, was that it made him focus on what his focus was. He began to see results immediately because there was a change in his finances, a change in his world view, and a change in his capacity to get certain projects. In today’s session of books ignite our guest enlightened our minds as he said; “There is nothing called foreign books and local books. The difference between foreign books and local books is packaging and access to an environment that supports book culture as well as publishing culture”. Nigerian environment does not support authors, every successful Nigerian author in Nigeria have literally had to break through the market but in recent times, we are beginning to make book writing and marketing fashionable, interesting and possible. A lot of authors in Nigeria have been doing the impossible with the available. However, one of the remarkable points, Praise highlighted in the show is that in just a matter of time, the world will begin to use our Nigerian books as text books. “Reading is you bringing the author to your world and having mental intercourse with the author. Mental intercourse is a process of having a brain exchange with the author. If you want to want to attain the success of anybody, get their books and if you read their books over and over again, their spirit will enter into you.” Praise Fowowe.
