This week we take a ride in Romain Saraiva’s firecracker red 1976 Toyota Corolla KE35 SR along the country roads just south of Paris. “I grew up in the back of a Renault 5 and Mercedes 190,” Romain reminisces, “On the highway, I would play a game with my father and my kid brother. The goal was to guess the make of cars and trucks. My father would always win because of all the old cars. That’s where it all started.” What began as an innocent game to pass the time on family road trips became the seed for a lifetime of automotive love. “I became interest[ed] in those cars,” Romain lovingly admits, “I am curious, and not knowing what make they were intrigued me.” In his younger years, Romain’s family acquired a sturdy Toyota Hilux—the seemingly immortal compact truck the world’s workforce has depended on for decades—and years later Romain’s grandfather is still driving the trusty Toyota hauler. His granddad’s Toyota pickup-turned-farm-truck, a neighbor’s often-driven Datsun, and the Saraiva family’s Mazda MX-5 with a six-digit odometer tally all came together to capture Romain’s curiosity: “I found it so interesting. I came to realize that these cars had a story and a soul.” When Romain eventually came of driving age, he was studying art in school and was after something special for his first car; something different, something with a soul. After discovering the unusual classic Toyota Corolla coupe in Portugal while on a family vacation, Romain kept an eye out for a similar sled once home back in France. Finally, he found a red and white Corolla KE35 SR for sale: “It reminded me of Starsky & Hutch, so I fell for it.” But Romain’s lusting eyes were blinded from what lay beneath the shiny red paint. He quickly discovered that the car was somewhat shoddily thrown together—not to mention it had been wrecked and hastily repaired for a quick sale—but the Corolla’s charm captivated Romain all the same, and he decided to iron out the wrinkles and make his vehicle into the one he’d originally envisioned it could be. “We spent a lot of time on it, taking it apart, changing parts, and redoing it. We wouldn’t give up,” says Romain, “I really wanted to create something for me and for my children too, like a heritage. Just like my father's talents for mechanics, for everything he taught me and will continue to pass on to me.” It was a lengthy process that required a lot of the family’s hands to help resurrect the humble Toyota coupe, but Romain was determined to bring it back from the brink. “It was a family adventure between a father and a son and the rest of the family who had to put up with a dismantled car for over two years, but [it] all ended well.” After seeing the rebuild photos and the finished project in action, we couldn’t agree more. almost 8 weeks na po tayo.. 55days total from beginning up to body repair ang paint prep na po ang KE35... medyo na late kami kase po nag ka sakit ang Latero at ako din tinamaan ng trangkaso...hopefully this week ma sisimulan na pong pinturahan ang KE 35 natin...target namin before or after Christmas.. then rest muna sa New Year so by January assemble na po tayo. 🙏😊😁💯

Lepas tu tukar alternator dia sebab tidak charging dan pasang lens signal fender dana bumper. So itu sahaja kerja-kerja dia untuk kereta saya ni, akan bersambung lagi di video akan datang la. Toyota Corolla Levin dan Sprinter Trueno – hikayat adik beradik kembar ‘Kilat dan Guruh Siapa tak kenal Toyota Corolla? Model paling popular dari Toyota ini sudahpun sebati dengan imej sebuah kereta keluarga yang sangat boleh diharap sejak kemunculan pertamanya pada 1966. Namun disebalik sebuah kereta ‘ayah-ayah’, Toyota sebenarnya telah menghasilkan Corolla versi lebih sporty untuk pilihan pelanggan yang lebih muda. Dan apa yang lebih menarik, model berkenaan dihasilkan dengan dua ‘watak’ berbeza dikenali sebagai pasangan kembar Corolla Levin dan Sprinter Trueno. Versi Corolla lebih ‘muda’ ini sebenarnya telah muncul sejak dari generasi pertama Corolla E10. Dengan bentuk belakang fastback dan hanya mempunyai dua pintu, model tersebut dikenali sebagai Toyota Sprinter dengan kod casis KE15/KE17, berbanding versi normal Corolla sedan empat- dan dua-pintu diberikan kod casis KE10/KE11. Untuk pengetahuan anda juga, di Jepun Toyota mempunyai tiga jaringan pengedar yang berbeza iaitu Toyota Store, Toyota Corolla Store dan Toyota Netz (sebelum itu dikenali sebagai Toyota Vista Store bermula 1980 dan Toyota Auto Store bermula 1967) – kesemuanya mempunyai kuota jualan dan ada model-model tertentu hanya dikhaskan untuk jualan jaringan-jaringan tertentu. Ketika era Corolla generasi pertama ini, model sedan Corolla hanya boleh dibeli di jaringan Toyota Corolla Store, manakala Toyota Sprinter pula hanya dijual di bilik-bilik pameran Toyota Auto Store. Walaupun hadir dengan dua bentuk badan berbeza dan sedikit kelainan pada muka, Corolla dan Sprinter berkongsi platform, sistem mekanikal seperti suspensi dan brek, serta sistem janakuasa dengan pilihan enjin siri ‘K’ – 1.0 liter 2K dan 1.2 liter 3K – yang sama. Adik-beradik Levin dan Trueno hanya muncul menerusi Toyota Corolla generasi kedua dengan kod casis E20 pada tahun 1972. Seperti juga Corolla dan Sprinter sebelum ini, versi istimewa ini masih menggunakan platform dan konfigurasi suspensi yang sama dengan Corolla normal. Namun berbanding KE20 yang banyak terdapat di negara kita, badan adik-beradik yang Levin-Trueno ini menerima tiang-C yang lebih landai, memberikan rupa lebih sporty sekaligus diberikan nama samaran sebagai ‘Mango’ kerana bentuknya yang seperti buah mangga. Sebelum kita pergi lebih jauh, anda tahu apa maksud Levin dan Trueno? Menurut kamus Oxford, Levin adalah bahasa Inggeris lama yang bermaksud ‘kilat’, manakala Trueno pula dalam bahasa Sepanyol bermaksud ‘guruh’. Jadi kembar Levin dan Trueno ini adalah pasangan adik-beradik ‘Kilat dan Guruh’ – sangat cool bukan? Levin dan Trueno E20 dihasilkan dalam pelbagai varian janakuasa. Model tertinggi untuk generasi ini dikenali dengan kod casis TE27. Sekiranya anda menjumpai Levin atau Trueno dengan kod casis ini, sudah tentu ketika diproduksi di kilang, ia diberikan enjin 2T-G bersama kotak gear manual lima-kelajuan. Enjin 2T-G berkenaan diambil terus dari kereta sport flagship Toyota pada era yang sama iaitu Toyota Celica 1600GT TA22. Enjin berkapasiti 1.6 liter ini walaupun ia hanya mempunyai 8 injap, kepala selindernya menempatkan dua batang aci sesondol (DOHC) membolehkan setiap injap direka dengan saiz yang agak besar dari biasa. Tidak cukup dengan itu, enjin ini didatangkan standard bersama dua buah karburator perlumbaan jenis side draught dari Mikuni, membolehkan kuasa setinggi 115 PS pada takat 6,400 rpm dihasilkan. Dengan berat badan kereta yang tidak sampai 1,000 kg, tenaga yang dijana mampu untuk membuat Levin dan Trueno TE27 ini mencapai kelajuan maksima 190 km/j – sesuatu yang sangat radikal untuk sebuah Corolla pada era 1970’an! Selain dari model tertinggi tersebut, Levin dan Trueno turut dijual dalam versi lebih rendah dengan kod casis KE25. Model ini menampilkan bentuk badan yang sama, tetapi tidak diberikan fender flare serta hanya dijana oleh enjin 3K 1.2 liter. Ketika ini juga sudah bermula di mana Levin hanya dijual secara ekslusif di Toyota Corolla Store, manakala Sprinter Trueno pula hanya boleh dibeli di Toyota Auto Store. Susur galur Levin Trueno menjadi lebih rumit apabila masuk ke Corolla generasi ketiga E30. Pada tahun 1974, Toyota Corolla Levin TE37 diperkenalkan dalam bentuk badan Hardtop, juga seperti Mango, model ini diberi kelainan pada tiang-C berbanding model KE30 biasa. Ia bukan sekadar direka dengan dua pintu, malah pintu berkenaan turut direka tanpa kerangka tingkap (frameless). Model tertinggi TE37 juga masih dijana enjin 2T-G yang sama dan juga berkuasa 115 PS. Model Levin Hardtop lebih rendah KE35/TE35 hadir dengan berberapa pilihan enjin seperti 3K 1.2 liter dan 2T 1.6 liter single cam. Model Hardtop ini tidak hadir dengan versi penuh Sprinter Trueno, tetapi hanya ditawarkan dalam versi Sprinter dengan enjin paling berkuasa 2T 1.6 liter single cam. Kod casisnya juga berbeza di mana ia dikenali sebagai TE60/TE66 walaupun menggunakan casis yang sama.

It was built from August 1974 to July 1981[1] and marked Toyota's greatest growth in the United States in the wake of the fuel crisis. In addition to its sister model, the Sprinter, there was a redesigned-body version built by Toyota affiliate Daihatsu, called the Daihatsu Charmant. While there were certain fourth-generation models with a longer model life, this generation, when considered as a whole, was the longest-lived one, possibly due to the worldwide recession in the 1970s. A large range of cars were built using this chassis, including Corollas, Sprinters, Daihatsu, and the sporty Levin and Trueno models with the DOHC motor, with a fuel injection upgrade added to Japanese Levin models in January 1977. The 3K engine was used in certain markets and later the 4K, while most Japanese and American models had the bigger 2T engine. A "Toyoglide" 2/3-speed automatic transmission was added as well as a four-speed(K40/T40) and five-speed(K50/T50) manual transmission, driving to the rear wheels. A three-door "liftback" (E50) and sports coupé (E51) was added in 1976. The E40 and E60 series were assigned to the Sprinter variants. In 1975, Toyota introduced the TTC-L (Toyota Total Clean-Lean Burn) on the 12T engine only, using a lean burn implementation. in 1976,Toyota introduced the TTC-C(Toyota total clean-Catalyst) on the 3K-U engine,using single bed catalytic converter and lambda close-loop oxygen sensor with a supercharger smog pump.
