This Danish Cord Bench was my first time weaving, and it was great learning a new skill, which was also quite a meditative process! This project is part of the Wood Whisper Guild, tutored by Caleb James, a renowned woodworker & chairmaker, specialising in Danish Cord. The bench is make of oak, although the long sides are maple as they are fully covered. The joinery is a stepped or haunched mortise & tenon - I used my domino jointer to make the mortises, but Caleb uses a drill press in the course... The finish is Fiddes Hard Wax Oil White, although Caleb uses a traditional Danish Soap finish Although it appears a time consuming process, once the technique & flow is established, you can progress through the weaving pretty quick. It is however quite tough on the fingers! Now I have the technique though, I will absolutely adapt this process & skill into my future furniture design work... The Wood Whisper Guild is an excellent resource & the courses are very professional 🤍 If you'd like to have a go at this project the link is below 🤍 Please support my partners & suppliers as they are key to what I do - I am not paid or sponsored by these companies, I just love working with them! Fiddes Woodfinishes - a welsh company with generations of hertiage🤍 &Sons Trading Co - British made workwear & fashion clothing - wonderful people & product - I was featured in their Pioneer Series on their journal🤍 ShadowFoam - a British company with excellent product for workshop organisation - I have a discount code DEERRIVER for 10% off at checkout🤍 Pony Jorgensen Clamps - just google them!

Danish Paper Cord | Danish Paper Rope at Design Interior Paper cord was, and still is, used for braided chair seats and backrests of many designer furniture, like e.g. Hans J. Wegners Wishbone Chair CH24, also Finn Juhl, Kaare Klint, Poul Kjærholm, Jorgen Baekmark, N.O. Møller and much more. Read more about Danish Paper Cord 🤍 Hans J. Wegner first used paper cord on his designs back in 1949. He chose this material because it is incredibly durable and also as natural as the wood it was to be weaved around. Our paper cord is treated with a light wax coating prior to weaving in order to make it more resistant to discoloration and grease.
Another course for you! This is the second part of how to repair this chair. In this video we'll show you how to weave the back. This will be fixed in the coming courses, with more close-up images showing what i am doing and better sound quality. Here you'll learn how to weave the amazing CH-25 chair, designed by danish Hans J. Wegner. The technique used for weaving this chair are quite common, so by learning this you'll automatically be able to weave other chairs with the same pattern as well. Danish Weavers is established by a Danish family, who since 1947 have been weaving the most popular chairs by danish designers such as Wegner. Build video of my oak stool with a woven seat with danish cord/paper cord. This stool is made with castle join (or double bridal joint) and for the lower stretchers I've used Festool domino for the first time, which was a delight to use. The leg has a slight taper which was cut on the table saw (Hammer C3 31) using a simple tapering jig. For the weaving I used ordinary nail which I bent to be able to hold the paper cord. The finish I use is Osmo Oil (white hardwax oil) Tools and accessories used in this build. Festool Domino DF 500 Osmo Oil White 3040 Irwin Quickgrip clamps
This informal video was taken during a private tutorial at Silver River Center for Chair Caning. Dave demonstrates his tips and tricks for getting your Danish Cord chair warped. This is not a full instructional video but will help experienced seat weavers with a time saving technique. Silver River Center for Chair Caning is the nation's only Chair Caning School & Museum located in Asheville's River Arts District. They have been a flagship for chair caning in Appalachia and in the US for a decade. Brandy & Dave teach chair nerds from all over the US and Canada and usually welcome visitors from all over the world into their 2500 sq ft industrial chic museum. Let's make a Camellia knot with Mizuhiki paper cord. Camellia knot is what happy JP designs calls it. It is usually called “Hira-ume musubi” literally meaning “flat plum blossom knot” as the flower petals look flatter than the basic “plum blossom knot”.
