Video tutorial on how to unplug a sunroof drain. Depending on where you live, sunroof drains may become plugged sooner than later. If you live in a treed area, it can happen more often as there is larger particles floating around in the air which would eventually plug the drains. These drains are normally feed through the roof pillars and exit somewhere underneath the vehicle. When a sunroof drain does become plugged, the common signs are either a wet headliner, water dripping from the headliner, wet roof pillar, a damp carpet or water pooling in the foot wells. Website: 🤍 Patreon: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Google Plus: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 Tumblr: 🤍 Pintrest: 🤍 Tools/Supplies Needed: -soft wire or trimmer cord -air compressor or can of air -bottle or cup of water -vacuum clean -rubber hose Procedure: -first you will need to open the sunroof as this is the easiest way to access the drains -I’ve already determined which drain is leaking and normally that can be done by having an idea where the water is leaking or gathering -we are looking for a hole which is at the base of the sunroof trim or frame -when cleaning the drain, it’s also a great idea to ensure there is no debris around the sunroof area which could worsen the clog or cause another cl -first we can use an air compressor to blow out any debris -here is have a small compressor with a regulator which can control the air pressure, so using the regulator, I like to keep the pressure at around 30psi -next using a hose attached to the blow gun, push the hose in the drain and then allow the air to push out the clog -if the air compressor does not work or you do not have access to one, use a wire -for this I have a roll of wire, this is stranded copper wire with an insulation -slowly insert the wire -trimmer cord is also great for this if you have a roll laying around -the length of wire or cord depends on the run of the drain, ensure it’s at least the height of the vehicle -feed the wire or cord in until it comes out the other side if you have a viewable drain exit -after that, remove the wire or cord -now test using a bottle of water, gradually drain the water around the sunroof drain, do not excessively dump as the drain is only able to remove a certain amount of water -as you can see the water is draining properly -if the problem persists, there may have been a drain you missed, a faulty seal, or faulty drain Thank you to all those who watch my videos and support my content. In this video I go over how to check and clear your sunroof drains if you are getting water into the vehicle from the headliner area. The seal is not supposed to stop all the water. The sunroof has a water management system and the lines can get clogged with debris. To clear then you can usually use a blow gun and shop air to purge the lines and get them to flow again. Then pour water only in the sunroof drain track to test.

If the answer is Yes to both questions, watch this video to try to isolate where your leak is coming from. It could be because you have clogged sunroof drains that need to cleared. You can clear your own drains with a little persuasion from weed whacker line or some other type of solid line you can snake in the drains. In the video, I say the driver side rear drain travels down the B-Pillar but it actually travels down the C-Pillar and then over the wheel-well. Some people have employed the use of compressed air but you need to be careful if you choose this method. If you use too high of air pressure, you could force the drain tube off the fitting and then you'd be forced to pull down your headliner so you can reattach the drain tube. No more wet floors. Run a new hose and keep that carpet dry! Highlanders are great. Their leaking sunroofs...not so much. Cleaning out the drains is impossible. Even a body shop refused to help me. But the fix is actually quite simple and can be done for less than $10 in about an hour with no drilling. Reroute that drain right out the floor like it should have been done to begin with. Find the drain holes. Usually at the front two corners inside the track opening. Feed several feet of line into them. Check if they are clear with some water and you’re done. Literally five minutes. If you have shop air, blow it in the hole. Even faster.
In this video we will be repairing the infamous g37 sunroof drain leak / clog! Fix water on floorboard carpet and mildew smell. The best and easiest way I have found is to ditch the old drainage system and reroute new lines to the a/c drain. Most people will attempt to replace the drain seal at the firewall only to realize that it is an absolute pain to get to and half the time it still leaks after the repair. We probably need to film this one with a jeep that has clogged drains but it has been ages since one has come through the workshop with this problem, so for now here you all go. The drains tubes are in the very corner of the sunroof internal compartment. We will film this one again once one with blocked drains comes in.

Fixing the leaking sunroof drain pipe on the sunroof (causing a wet footwell) of a 2005 Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3. There are four sunroof drains running away from each corner of the sunroof, this video covers the repair to the driver's side (offside) front tube. It was perished and causing water to drain into the driver's footwell and sills. I managed to repair this side without buying any replacement parts, using only basic tools. Labour took about two hours, new replacement parts would have been about £17.50. DIY TOTAL SAVING (as opposed to paying labour and materials) - about £177.50

Often times, people will see water coming in from their dome lights or from the side pillars in your car. In DIYNate's case, this has been a regular problem with his 2008 Jeep Compass Sport. To solve this, he follows the below steps: • Test your sunroof drain with cup of water / funnel to see if both sides or one side are clogged (look to see where the water pools and where water is draining). • Look underneath the car around the door area where the sunroof drains empty. If the drain is clogged, you will see very little water coming out. • Then, take an air compressor with a bent / curved gun nozzle and find the sunroof drain holes (warning, your mileage may vary; DIYNate is not a professional mechanic; make sure to take precautions for safety and you may want to have some type of cover or towels down on the interior to avoid a mess). • Next, shoot the air down the drain holes that seem to be clogged and see if the compressed air will unclog the drain. • Finally, pour some more water into the drain and see if water is now draining smoothly or if you may need more compressed air and repeat the process if it is still clogged. Note: Getting the bent / curved shaft into the drain hole and forming a good seal can be a little tricky. Often, compressed air in the hole will be enough to force the drain to unclog, you may have to try and keep air from escaping. In the past, DIYNate has also used an approach with some weedeater line (video here: 🤍 but that process was less effective and much more time consuming. Preference is definitely toward using the air compressor and was validated by a mechanic who shared that this is also how their shop unclogs sunroof drains (and charges ~$75-150 for the fix). In the video, you can see the sunroof drains unclogging after compressed air is shot through them and the weep holes at the bottom draining the water after the fix. Depending on your area and where you park your car, you may have to repeat this process annually or on a somewhat regular cadence because sunroof drains do clog. As with all DIYNate projects, this is meant to be informational and to help with the idea process. The new Gen 2 Raptor came with a leaking sunroof, and I figured out pretty quickly that the sunroof drain line that was supposed to be on the front driver side wasn't ever installed from the factory. Hopefully this video helps someone who has leaking lines or had a similar factory mistake. It's a fairly straightforward fix once you crack everything open and see how the line is routed. This short video shows you how to prep and service the sunroof drains on your 2015-2021 VW GTI, but it also applies to the 2010-2020 Mk6-7.5 Jetta/Golf platforms. The techniques & principles are transferrable to most other modern vehicles where sunroof drains must be cleaned annually as part of your normal vehicle maintenance. Most modern cars have the drains running in the same basic routes, 4 total drains, 2 in the front A-pillars & 2 in the rear C-pillars, so the only variance will be where your drains terminate under the hood/car, and what tools are needed to get to those drains. NEVER use pressurized water for this procedure, and avoid using "snack tools", as they can and often will puncture the delicate rubber hoses that comprise the drains. Having some lint-free blue shop towels on hand and some compressed air for the upper gutter area around the sunroof is both wise and helpful. Hope this helps some folks out! -The Texican
