This brave powerhouse took her small funds, purchased a Ford Cargo Van, and started a new chapter on the road. With faith that all would be provided for, she started her conversion, and it's been a work in progress ever since! Vanessa is a thrifter, so most things in her rig were recycled, gifted, or found at second-hand stores. She's creative with interchangeable decor and loves to bring light and brightness into her home. As a fashionista, her closet stands the entire length of the van and is highly organized with bins. She has a DIY toilet, a four-burner stove, and a lounge area comfortable enough for a large group! During the pandemic, I watched a bunch of YouTubers live in their vans and thought.. Hmm, this looks fun, I can do the same. I then bought a brand new van and took it to Cascade Campers to do the build. Afterwards, I sold all my belongings and began to document my experience from beginning to end on this channel while traveling to a bunch of places and living in it full time. Lately, I've had a lot of time to think about all this and I wanted to make this video to talk about things NEVER discussed by other YouTubers. I made this video so it is helpful to others and to bring a fresh dose of reality to the HYPE known as "van life." ⚠️ Don't forget to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and leave a COMMENT! 📸 Instagram 🤍 👉 Subscribe 🤍 🚌 MY POWER SYSTEM UPGRADES 🚌 ✔️ SunPower 110w Flexible Solar Panel: 🤍 ✔️ EPever 20a Solar Charge Controller: 🤍 ✔️ EPever MT50 Display: 🤍 ✔️ VENTLINE VP-543 ROOF AIR VENT: 🤍 ✔️ Comet 12V Water Pump: 🤍 ✔️ Chins LifePo4 100ah Smart Battery: 🤍 ✔️ Renogy 20a DC to DC Battery Charger: 🤍 3qBfXAf 🚌 VAN LIFE BASICS 🚌 ✔️ Camping Chair: 🤍 ✔️ GetOutGear Down Blanket: 🤍 ✔️ Coleman 20-40 degree sleeping bag: 🤍 ✔️ Pillow Covers: 🤍 ✔️ Spill proof Urinal: 🤍 🚌 VAN LIFE CLEANING ESSENTIALS 🚌 ✔️ Cordless USB Vacuum: 🤍 ✔️ QuickDry Microfiber towel: 🤍 ✔️ Ivation Portable Shower: 🤍 ✔️ Cup Holder Trash Bin: 🤍 🚌 VAN LIFE ELECTRONICS 🚌 ✔️ Chinese Diesel Heater: 🤍 ✔️ 12v USB-C Adapter: 🤍 ✔️ Rechargeable Puck Lights: 🤍 ✔️ Govee Temp/Humidity Monitor: 🤍 ✔️ LED Vanity Mirror: 🤍 ✔️ Mini Wifi Camera: 🤍 ✔️ Remote Control Fan: 🤍 ✔️ JBL Flip 5 BT Speaker: 🤍 🚌 VAN LIFE FIRST AID ESSENTIALS 🚌 ✔️ First Aid Kit: 🤍 ✔️ Carbon Minoxide Detector: 🤍 ✔️ Fire Extinguisher: 🤍 🚌 VAN LIFE KITCHEN ESSENTIALS 🚌 ✔️ Coleman Folding Table: 🤍 ✔️ Collapsible Colander: 🤍 ✔️ 10’ Spatula: 🤍 ✔️ Folding Stove Wind Screen: 🤍 ✔️ GSI Outdoors Cooking Pot: 🤍 ✔️ GSI Outdoors Frypan: 🤍 ✔️ Pyrex Glass Container: 🤍 ✔️ Hotlogic Mini Oven: 🤍 ✔️ Paper Towel Holder: 🤍 ✔️ 3 in 1 Utensil Set: 🤍 ✔️ Dash Egg Cooker: 🤍 ✔️ Stainless Steel Plates: 🤍 ✔️ Insulated Coffee Mug: 🤍 ✔️ Collapsible Food Containers: 🤍 ✔️ JetBoil Flash: 🤍 🚌 VAN LIFE PET ESSENTIALS 🚌 ✔️ Dog Bowl Mat: 🤍 ✔️ Dog Mat Bed: 🤍 ✔️ Collapsable Dog Bowl: 🤍 ✔️ Splash Proof Dog Water Bowl: 🤍 ✔️ Food Container set: 🤍 *Please consider subscribing to my channel!* DISCLAIMER: Links included in this description might be affiliate links. Original TikTok: 🤍 We've all seen the van life TikTok/Instagram posts, romanticizing living on the road. But the reality of living in a car/homelessness, is a tragical necessity of capitalism. And in most cases not on TikTok, it looks pretty bleak. Benjamin Carollo breaks it down. Follow Benjamin on Twitter - 🤍 Instagram - 🤍 #BenjaminCarollo #News #Politics

I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent come from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I will only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people will consider this the lowers time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After, trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I are have been living full-time in my self convert van.

This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. As a semi-minimalist, I eventually decided to donate/sell most of my belongings and move into my 4x4 Nissan Xterra. After 14 months of SUV living and falling madly in love with the open road - I bought a van and hired a team to build it out. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world on a whole new level, all while having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. I saw the tiffanyferg video about vanlife and the housing crisis and was inspired to make this! my goal is to get twelve views and one comment in the first week
Dan has lived in his DIY converted Chevy Express Van for 2 years. He moved into it because he felt stuck in a repetitive and monotonous of working a 9-5 and living paycheck to paycheck because of high rent costs. He was inspired by Vanlife Youtubers and saw that this lifestyle could be a way out of that cycle he felt stuck in. Dan has had a lot of different jobs so he felt capable of building out his own van and plus he knew it would be cheaper than if he bought a pre fab or had someone else build it for him. His van is a simple chevy Express and it appears stealth from the outside because it used to be a construction van, and Dan built it out on the cheap but made it custom for his needs with a computer desk and kitchen table, storage, solar power wall for all his electronics and much more. There's a big difference between living in an RV homeless and van life. Actual homelessness is the absence of choice. Lux is 19 years old. She has been homeless since the age of 16. Lux doesn't live in an RV because it's cool or to save money. She doesn't have money to rent an apartment, so for the millions of vehicle residents and mobile homeless, they don't have a choice. This is the difference between homelessness and a nomadic lifestyle. I cannot imagine the abuse and fear a young girl at 16 experiences from life on the streets. You must read between words when listening to a person's story. There are years of trauma buried deep down inside. A large majority of homeless youth are never even reported missing. They are throwaways, not runaways. Lux shares that her family situation was unhealthy. As a minor, Lux first lived homeless in a tent but eventually got an RV. I am not sure the RV runs, but it's much better than a tent. Sadly, the area where Lux and other vehicle residents live is scheduled for a homeless sweep. The criminalization of homelessness continues to grow in cities all over America. Lux shares that she was assigned a housing counselor, who told Lux she was on a housing waiting list, but the person left the service provider, and it turns out Lux was never placed on a housing waiting list. This kind of runaround happens often. Homeless services are filled with layers of bureaucracy that often hurt efforts to help people. The lack of affordable housing is the leading cause of homelessness. As rents skyrocket, remember: a $100 increase in median rent is associated with a 9% increase in homelessness. We must prevent homelessness, and in situations like Lux's, we must get people off the streets as quickly as possible. Sadly, there is insufficient support to fix the affordable housing crisis or get homeless people the help they need, but you can change that. Please educate yourself and those around you, and PLEASE get politically active. Special thanks to the Vehicle Resident Outreach 🤍 WATCH the Horrible Reality of LA's Homeless Sweeps 🤍 Living under a Bridge Doesn't Stop This Seattle Homeless Woman from Staying Positive 🤍 #homeless #seattle #homelessyouth Subscribe here: 🤍 Invisible People’s website: 🤍 Support Invisible People: 🤍 On Patreon: 🤍 Invisible People’s Social Media: 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍 Mark Horvath’s Twitter: 🤍 About Invisible People There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness. We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness. This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you. However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now. Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

In today's Van life documentary we talk with Ryan who has been living in a minivan for 3 months. He was gifted the mini van from his ex partner and he says that this saved him from living on the streets as a homeless person. He tells us that he had to leave his last housing situation because he had no choice and that it was one of these classic BC housing crisis situations. Ryan was interested in Vanlife prior to this and so when he was facing homelessness he knew that Vanlife would allow him to at least live some kind of better life. A van acts like a home in the way where you can lock up your possessions, have a permanent bed, cooking area and a place to feel safe and away from the elements. Lux has been homeless since she was 16. Growing up, her mother was critically ill, so Lux lived with her stepdad. He would kick her out randomly when he was drinking. "I wouldn't know where to go," she said. "Eventually, it got to the point where I didn't want to go back." Lux is now 19. She has lived in her RV for three years and has been forced to move about 20 times. Seattle's controversial RV homeless sweeps have been a source of contention among advocates, residents, and city officials alike. By forcibly removing vehicle residents from their makeshift mobile homes, these sweeps not only displace vulnerable individuals but also often leave them with no alternative shelter. This policy, aimed at addressing the visible impact of homelessness in the city, has been criticized for exacerbating the issue by further marginalizing those who already face significant challenges. The trauma and disruption experienced by people subjected to these sweeps cannot be overstated. For many, their RV or vehicle serves as a lifeline, offering a modicum of stability and protection from the elements. The sudden loss of their mobile home can have a devastating impact on their mental and emotional well-being, and without suitable alternatives, many are left to face the streets unprotected. This not only creates an unsafe environment for those individuals, but it also makes it increasingly difficult for them to access necessary resources and services that could aid them in their journey towards stable housing. Lux receives help from Vehicle Residency Outreach in Seattle. "Joe and Jonah have been visiting me quite often," she said, bringing her food and to Goodwill for clothes. They also let her know when sweeps will happen, so she doesn't lose her van. "I really appreciate them." Bill Kirlin, Director of Vehicle Residency Outreach, said his team works with parking enforcement, which will refer the team to homeless people living in their vehicles to prevent them from getting impounded. "Being homeless is traumatic in different and unique ways," Bill said. "Having an understanding of that helps. Three of our four people have experienced homelessness and lived in a vehicle. They better understand what comes with living in a vehicle." Joe Ingram is one of those people. "What we do is go out and meet people living in vehicles," Joe said, adding he and his partner Jonah will buy vehicle parts, provide gas money, bags of food, and get people like Lux things they need, including moving their vehicles. "If they get swept, they will lose their home, and they are walking the streets, and there are no shelter beds available. There's no shelter to refer people to now. It's just moving people over and over again." Joe has been doing outreach for over 20 years and has been homeless multiple times. "I'm good at responding to their needs," he said. "I build bridges, bridges of trust. "I can feel the trauma and the apprehension they have. The first time I met Lux, I went home and cried. I know the trauma and the fear of not knowing what will happen next." According to Dr. Graham Pruss, a Vehicle Residency Expert, 30-50% of people who are unsheltered in Seattle live in vehicles. That is anywhere between 3,000 to 5,000 people. Many cities like Seattle have regulations that push oversized vehicles like RVs into industrial zones, often very far from social services. The result is a systemic disconnection between people living in vehicles and the actual social services. Finding a solution is looking at the diversity of vehicle residents and how to connect them with the existing services – overnight temporary parking spaces, longer-term supportive parking spaces, and more permanent stable parking spaces like an RV Park or mobile home park. In todays video we visit with Rob as he walks us through Van Alley in Brooklyn New York. The high rent prices in New York City have been forcing many to move into self converted DIY camper vans. There are many that come and go as they find alternative living spaces other than their van dwellings. This rent free living can also be difficult as the winter months come. #vandwelling #campervan Follow Rob on YouTube 🤍 Follow New Jersey Outdoor Adventures on Instagram 🤍 About New Jersey Outdoor Adventures - New Jersey Outdoor Adventures YouTube channel is about vanlife , camper vans, Van builders, DIY conversions and RV walk through tours in and around New Jersey. David and his daughter are mobile homeless. They live in an RV in Venice Beach, California with their dog and two cats. Both work jobs, but it's still not enough to save up to rent an apartment. David's daughter works two jobs while David is currently working parttime. The night before this interview, David was in the hospital because of an injury to his hand. Health issues have reduced the hours that he can work. This father and daughter have been living in a small recreational vehicle (RV) parked on the side of the road for almost nine months. David and his daughter both lost their places to live and started to live in their cars around the same time. Because they were not able to find affordable housing, the two eventually spent the money they had on an RV so they'd have someplace to sleep. David says mobile homelessness is like the TV show Lost in Space or Star Trek. Every day is a different adventure not knowing where you are going to end up and there's always some element of danger. David said in their nine months of living in an RV he has seen a lot of reactions with most of them being negative. One of the biggest challenges for people living in a vehicle is finding a safe place to park. David and his daughter are working homeless. David says all they want is what everyone else wants: A couple of walls, a place to go to the bathoom, some privacy, and a place to cook your meals. A tent on the sidewalk or a mobile home parked on the streets is now affordable housing in America. If we do not fix the affordable housing crisis in Los Angeles County, homeless numbers will continue to increase! The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible. Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath – its founder – and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten. I have done many many videos on van life and seniors living as nomads in rvs, cars, and in other alternative living situations. Many of those seniors are doing so by choice and love the freedom the lifestyle offers. Many others are forced to move into vehicles because they are living on meager fixed social incomes. Some like Lindy in this video have adapted and if given the chance to move back to a traditional housing situation would choose to remain as nomads. But, every senior I have encountered living on a very limited income faces enormous challenges and in this video and in future videos I will be sharing some of those challenges and the bravery of these seniors. They are at a time in life where they have spent years contributing to society but seem to have been cast aside in many instances to fend for themselves caught up in senseless bureaucratic mazes that make their lives even more difficult. I know many of my viewers are very familiar with these challenges as you are seniors in similar circumstances. I would love to hear your remarks and opinions. If you would like to support Lindy there is an easy way to do it. Just go over to her YouTube channel, L.A.V.A. Lindy's Awesome Van Adventures, and subscribe. You can run her playlist of videos and like each of her videos. This will help her to become monetized on her YouTube channel. I will be having a meetup in Quartzsite, Arizona January 18 - 21. We will be meeting from 4pm on the 18th to 20th and from dusk on the 21st for my 70th Birthday Bash. Hopefully, Lindy will be on a panel during the meetup if you would.like to meet her.
