I am pretty active - usually at least 6 days a week. So naturally I'd like to track that activity somehow. I had the Apple Watch for a couple of years, but then replaced it. Yes it's that time of the year again; the Xiaomi Mi band 5 is out! But is it really a big improvement over the Mi Band 4? Let's find out! Find the Mi Band 5 on : AliExpress: 🤍 BangGood: 🤍 Gearbest: 🤍 Xiaomi's Mi Band 5 is the latest version of their fitness tracker wristbands. It has kept pretty much the exact same size, looks and functionality as on the Mi Band 4. It's got a full-color AMOLED touch display and a single touch input button below the screen. The screen size is a bit bigger on the Mi Band 5. -Being 1.1" it does have a slightly higher resolution of 126 x 294 px and at 450 NIT it's also noticeably brighter. The core features like the battery, RAM, and ROM size have not changed on this model, although the accelerometer and heart rate tracker both have seen a significant improvement. In terms of functionality, it is still pretty much the same as you would have with the Mi Band 4. You can swipe horizontally on the watch face to access the shortcuts to apps you use the most. You can set up which APPS you want to be displayed here from the Mi Fit APP. When swiping up and down from the watch face you can access all the APPS on the Mi band 5. -It's still the same old that you might be familiar with, but there are a few new ones. It now has a stress level monitor, improved sleep tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, PAI, a remote camera shutter control, and a whole bunch of new fitness tracker modes. Most notably is the new magnetic charger. This means you no longer have to take the Mi Band out of the strap to charge it as you can simply attach it to the band which is a very welcome improvement. So in broad strokes; the Mi Band 5 is basically the Mi Band 4S. Sure, it's got some good upgrades, but most of these could have really just been OTA firmware upgrades on the Mi Band 4 as the majority of the changes are really software related... The most notable changes on the Mi Band 5 are the slightly bigger, and brighter screen, the improved heart rate sensor -and accelerometer, and the new magnetic charger (which also has a longer cord). So is it worth getting the Mi Band 5 over the Mi Band 4? Well, that really depends on two things. 1. How much you are willing to spend? 2. How important these newer features are for you? Even though it does not have the MAJOR upgrades you might have wanted to see, I do think that the more accurate tracking and the new charger could be reason enough for you to pick up the Mi Band 5. The resolution is set at 126 x 294 pixels and it supports 100% of the P3 color gamut. It also comes with a 2.5D tempered glass panel that protects the screen from scratches and abrasions. There are more than 100 new themed dials to choose from, including 54 IP featured themes such as Spongebob Squarepants, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hatsune Miku, and Detective Conan. You can also customize the band interface by adding function modules based on your preference, everyday mood, and personal style. The Mi Band 5 also gets several new sports modes; 11 to be precise. In contrast, the Mi Band 4 offered a total of six sports modes. Given that people are not getting out much these days, it’s nice to see the inclusion of more indoor activity features on the Mi Band 5. Check out all the new sports modes below. Reviewing the Xiaomi Band 7, a budget fitness tracker that packs plenty of premium smart band features and respectable health tools, one of the best at this price. The Xiaomi Band 7 also boasts Mi Fitness support and a massive, bold OLED display that's easy to read. Here's my verdict after a week of testing this fitness tracker, one of my favourites of 2022, vs Huawei, Oppo and others. Smart steps monitoring, heart rate monitoring and SPO2 shenanigans are just a few of this wrist rocket's tricks. You also get a PAI score for how hard you're working your heart, sleep and stress tracking and over 100 fitness routines (including, er, darts, chess and eSports). Battery life is good - the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 can survive four to five days between charges. Not the best at this budget price but certainly good enough. One of the greatest features of this tracker however is that big, crisp, colourful OLED screen. It's easy to read and a proper beauty. If you’ve been reading the initial reviews out there you would have noticed the excitement around the Amazfit Band 5 because of onboard Alexa! But that’s not the only exciting new feature, there’s also an SpO2 montitor, there are really awesome faces available, the sleep stages has now been extended to include light, deep, and REM sleep! Amazfit has a superior BioTracker sensor, to deliver improved heart rate accuracy. And it’s only 5£ or 7$ more expensive than the Mi Band 5. I brought the Mi Band 5 along to show that the 2 trackers have a very similar design. Not identical! Just similar.. the case is made of polycarbonate, dimensions vary by a tiny bit where the Amazfit Band 5 is wider by 0.2 mm and longer by another 0.3 mm and thinner by 0.1mm.. Now these differences are so miniscule that they are almost invisible to the naked eye. The only visible design cue that sets them apart is the fact the Amazfit Band 5 is less oval but more rectangular – it’s a subtle change but I like it… it just looks wider and easier on the eye. It also pops out of the strap with ease if you need to change straps. The TPU strap quality is same and that’s fine… it’s flexible and rather soft. The clasp is the tuck and clip which works well. It's never fallen off and the band does not cause any skin irritations. The AMOLED display is also the same 1.1” we’ve seen on the Mi Band 5. Bright colors, deep blacks and high contrast. These are the ingredients to great visibility in all light conditions. On top of that there are plenty of faces to personalize your tracker with! And the faces are just more “special” than those on the Mi Band 5 or any other tracker under $100 that we have seen so far. We’ll start with the coolest feature! Alexa! Can you believe this, a tracker that costs like a super budget tracker has Amazon’s Alexa to tell you a joke, the weather, directions, set your alarms or record your shopping list! This is a premium feature than began with Fitbit’s Versa.. but that thing costs $250… I can’t say I use the feature all that often but just knowing it’s available makes me fell good😊 As you would expect from a tracker in this day and age it covers you in terms of being waterproof up to 50m, so feel free to take it to the shower or the swimming pool. You're getting a 3-axis acceleration and gyroscope motion sensors to track indoor and outdoor activities. What this means is that on top of the 11 preset sport modes you also get 2 autorecognised activities – walking and running. The beauty here is that if you are out walking or running for over 10min the band will pick this up and start tracking the activity as an intended exercise! There’s more!
